Me, too, for causing that. But open blogs can get very open sometimes.

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't look at the original NYT article - did you? Doesn't seem like they could be so wrong about something like this. And thanks for being civil about it.

Some1loves you: maybe Obama picked her as a shrewd political move but that article claiming that diabetes will affect her judgment is wrong. If her diabetes is under control and Obama says the medical experts say it is then there is no problem.

Regarding blood sugars which are the be all and end all when it comes to diabetes. High blood sugars would be anything over 10.0 (hyperglycemia) but you have to reach 20.0 and over to even be touching what was described as mood swings in that article.

Low blood sugars on the other hand (hypoglycemia) would be anything below 3.0 and you would not have to worry about this affecting her judgment because she would be on the floor in a coma.

Blood sugars are easily controlled by a regime of exercise, insulin and regular blood testing.

I understand that you were quoting from an article and formed your opinion on that but that IF at the end of the article is a big one and perhaps written to mislead for the sake of hyperbole, if despite insulin your body and brain were to struggle with blood sugar levels it suggests a serious problem most likely caused by lack of exercise, bad diet, poor control, drugs, drink etc, etc and this would show up in even the most basic of medical examinations but the fact that she has had diabetes since she was 8 and has not lost her sight or a limb or been in a coma suggests that her diabetes is under control.

Type 1 diabetics have a blood testing machine which saves all the records of the person’s blood sugars so you can’t just make up the numbers. I’m sure her records were checked by Obama’s people.

Sorry Bock for going completely off topic.

Susan Boyle. Average singer. If Obama invites her to sing at the White House, he loses my vote when re-election comes around.

Norma: I brought the Sotomayor nomination to show the difference between popularity and talent. If Obama is nominating her for her talent, then there are those who question giving a lifelong appointment to someone who has a defect that could affect her ability to judge. I saw it at an article I get from Winston Middle East Analysis & Commentary:

---------------------------------------------------------------------

"The New York Times on May 27th posted an article: "Health Spotlight Is On Diabetes, Its Control and Its Complications" by Denise Grady. This article was about the physical condition of Judge Sonia Sotomayor which is a cause for concern. She has had Type 1 Diabetes since she was 8 years old. This is a disease that affects many of the human body’s organs in unpredictable and sometimes dangerous ways...

A Judge (especially a Supreme) must be consistent in his or her thought processes. Those being heard by the Court could become victims of the mood swings in a Type 1 Diabetic Judge. The mood swings do not necessarily have to be violent in order to affect judgement. When your chemistry is on balance on a given day, you will likely be happy, open to certain emotional arguments and offer agreeable judgement on that day or several days.

If, on the other hand, despite medication your body and brain always has to struggle with blood sugar levels, your judgement can be impaired and faulty."

---------------------------------------------------------------------

That means that her "talent" is in question. But maybe Obama is also/mostly nominating her for her "popularity", and vote-bringing potential among Hispanics.

Yes, it would be cause for celebration, unless she's not as capable, or maybe potentially incapable, compared to a non-Hispanic alternative. How would you feel if you lost a 5-4 decision on one of her off days?

I'm trying to resist saying this, but - better to respond to postings that require clear thinking after a good night's sleep. She could get confused - just like you did...

She's a normal enough small village woman whose been singing, and in talent contests for yonks. She wants to sing and nobody had to put her up to it. She's stressed cause, unlike any of us ever experienced, she's had the focus of the whole world on her performing only twice to win something big. Why can't a person get exhausted and need a break, (in a safe place from the press), to process, without her being so unusual? Sounds a pretty sane option under the circumstances. She'll make choices where she goes from here and likely have a much more interesting and successful life. What's so weird about that?

What on earth has Sonia Sotomayors nomination to the US Supreme court got to do with Susan Boyle from BGT ?
Its late, i'm tired, getting confused.
What has Sonia Sotomayors diabetes got to do with her ability to function as a judge ?
Is it not a cause for celebration that she would be the first hispanic supreme court judge ?
Seriously Bock, is this another Demi Moore/Subo confusion for me ?
Is Sonia Sotomayor going to audition for BGT ? Is President Obama going to be a judge on BGT ? Is Simon Cowell going to be the next American President ? Is Susan Boyle replacing Gordon Brown ? Are they all going to join FF and become a dance troupe, I can't take anymore good night all.

Troubled Scottish virgin Susan Boyle left her London based psychiatric clinic today her big bro told the Bock the Robber (BTR) news agency.

The 48 year old singer was catapulted to fame two months ago following her appearance on Britain's Got Talent.

But following her appearance on the hit TV extravaganza last weekend she was admitted to the Priory suffering from a variety of ailments on Sunday.

It is understood that one of the ailments may be a form of BSE.

BTRs eagle eyed reporter Norma, who broke the recent exclusive on the unusually high percentage of Elvis Presley impersonators being made redundant from light haulage companies, estimates that the five day residency would cost about seven grand.

"I estimate the five day stay would cost about seven grand, " she said. - ahem.

Big bro John, who dismissed suggestions that a five day stay at the Priory wouldn't do him any harm, told BTR: "She's much happier. She seems a lot more like herself"?

"Things are becoming a lot clearer for her now."

Below, our Susan looking much happier and seeing things a lot clearer en route to her audition for a part in the remake of One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest.

Meanwhile, John exclusively revealed to BTR that he would be happy for cranky Britain's Got Talent Judge Simon Cowell to steer his sisters career.

"He's been around the dance floor a few times. I'm sure Simon will do a good job for her," Boyle senior added.

Susan is now understood to be holed up in a south London flat planning her assault on the music charts.

Below, a South London flat, yesterday.

According to a music expert the Scot has got what it takes to make it to the top.

"Susan has got what it takes to make it to the top," he predicted.

Bock. The Priory is a long established mental health facility in England, It is very successful and the treatments and approach very advanced apparantly.
For people requiring admittance via the NHS the criteria is next to impossible, therefore it's primary admittance is for private patients, those with extensive health cover or hard cash, it's been around a long time and has various centres in England, I'm not critising the facility as my knowledge of it is basic but as far as I know it's a very far cry from anything we associate with a mental health facility in this country, all love and light and damn expensive and very exclusive, Under normal circumstances I doubt Susan Boyle would have gotten to the gate , so someone is picking up the massive tab, and well they should, but I have no sympathy because she made her choices and ultimatly has now been able to avail of these very advanced therapies which she may well have needed prior to her entry to the circus that is "Britains got talent".
I have to admit that when i watched the show i got hooked, I may have hated the set up but i still watched it.
You would find the website of The Priory in google, if you put in "The Priory London" but no costs would be on it, it's all very protected.

It's true that people vicariously live celebrities' lives too much. I even warned someone on YouTube, who posted a whole channel of mostly Michael Jackson videos, not to get too carried away - there are other things in life. But why not let people rejoice in the aspirations of ordinary people to express their talents? 14 year old George Sampson, last year's winner, said that "this competition is EVERYTHING...it's going to save my life". That is getting carried away a little. But he also said that kids from his poor neighborhood don't usually get a chance to fulfill their dreams.

A Filipina nightclub dancer once came on the stage in a miniskirt to sing. They asked her what she wants - she said, almost crying, just a better life for her two daughters. OK - maybe she went about it in kind of a strange way, but it shows how much this means to most of them. Let's just hope that they know how to take the failure and rejection the right way.

Hoof said "ordinary lives paraded and ridiculed". That's true - sometimes, the judges can be very cruel in their criticism - even on live TV. But the contestants know to expect that, and most take it positively. George only got past the first auditions in 07, but came back to win in 08.

Fox - the moon didn't have a choice.

Abdul - politics is just another popularity contest. Obama inviting Susan - just one who won sharing with one who almost did. He wants Sotomayor on the supreme court even though she's diabetic, which could affect her decision making ability (although it doesn't seem to have yet). How much of that is because she'll help bring the Hispanic vote in 2012?

Lastly, is a Priory related to A priori? ; )

Bock, you've been uncharacteristically quiet on this post, letting us fight it out alone. What do you think?

But the contestants know to expect that, and most take it positively. George only got past the first auditions in 07, but came back to win in 08.

Fox – the moon didn't have a choice.

Abdul – politics is just another popularity contest. Obama inviting Susan – just one who won sharing with one who almost did. He wants Sotomayor on the supreme court even though she's diabetic, which could affect her decision making ability (although it doesn't seem to have yet). How much of that is because she'll help bring the Hispanic vote in 2012?

Lastly, is a Priory related to A priori? ; )
