Well you certainly notice/remember one more than the other. Or at least have more gratitude when they go out of their way to not be horrible.

I've thought that too. I think in some cases people go out of their way to avoid being like their parents. And then when they breed it skips a generation and the kids turn into the grandparents.

Look at the royals – great scholar-poet-warrior begets dissolute waster begets mighty hammer of justice begets weak-chinned conniver and so on.
