Now I am not generally a sentimental woman but you wouldn't believe what that stirred in me!
When I was a young girl I used to sing that with my mother, she playing the piano.
Between us we had a great selection of songs and now wish I hadn't thrown the piles of sheet music after she died.

That took me back years. I'd never have thought of looking for it on YouTube but there's a massive collection there now.
My uncle was a traditional fiddler who made 78 rpm records in the States years ago. He used to play Whispering Hope on the fiddle sometimes, and it was sung in our house too when I was little. When the American relatives arrived every summer, there was music almost every night. One summer I had to sleep in the garage with my mother, as there were no beds left. I remember the spiders and being afraid to put my bare feet on the floor. But god, the music was great …

That song was one of my late parents favourites, remember they'd sing "Whispering Hope" together at parties in the house decades back, and that LP seemed to be playing every time we'd get in from school.

Brought a lump to my throat listening to it again for the first time in years, thanks for that Bock, and RIP Jo Stafford.

Jo Stafford, one of the very few female singers that Frank Sinatra actually stopped and listened to. 90 was a good innings.
