Audrey: Surely you can do better than calling it bullshit. I'm not saying it's a logical way to behave. I'm only speculating on the way Bertie's mind works based on the evidence before me.

And before you misquote me any more, I didn't criticise Tom Kilroe for having little education. I also didn't say that paintings or racehorses legitimise anything.

You really need to have a better look at what's written here before you start sounding off, but maybe a good night's sleep might be in order first.

Sounds a little elitist to me, but call me crazy.
Why would Bertie try to hide his origins? Um for that matter why would you? (with the scientoligists, Dublin being a bigger dump than limk and all)
'We all know the sort of character Tom Kilroe represents'. Lots of people from that generation didn't get the opportunity to get a full education and have done well for themselves, good for them, doesn't make them corrupt, sure. It's a seperate issue.
How do paintings and racehorses legitimise yourself? Despite all his money, he knew he was an ignorant man, and he hated it. yikes. what bs.

Not that the average self-made Irish businessman is any more or less sociopathic than yer average English self-made businessman, mind you. There's enough machismo, envy, begrudgery, and self-hatred amongst that particular gangster class to power a flotilla to the Falklands.
